Issuance of an EASA PPL(A) License on Basis of an FAA Pilot Certificate (FAA -> EASA with TIP-L)
As of 20.06.2022, any holder of an FAA (US) licence may no longer exercise the rights under his licence without an additional EASA licence. Thus, cross-border flights with an N-registered aircraft with an EASA licence are no longer permitted.

However, the transfer of the FAA licence (e.g. PPL) with or without instrument rating has recently become relatively uncomplicated. We will be happy to assist you with this.

General
In May 2021, EASA published the TIP-L procedure, which regulates the transfer of licences. This primarily enables the uncomplicated transfer of private pilot licences PPL(A) and the associated ratings (VFR-Night, IR, SEP and MEP). Other ratings/licences, such as CPL or ATPL, as well as other class ratings such as SET or TMG, can unfortunately not be transferred via this route.
Conversion of FAA licence to EASA licence (PPL(A))
the following criteria must be met in order to apply for an EASA licence:
- EU Medical
- Application to the authority and proof that the FAA licence is currently valid and current
- Proof of language proficiency in English
- Training and preparation for the theoretical and practical examination as required
- Proof of training or proof of experience for VFR night rating, if applicable
- Skill Test by an EASA Flight Examiner FE(A)
this consists of a theoretical and practical part
Conversion of an FAA Airplane Instrument Rating to an EASA CB-IR(A)
PIC time under IFR >50h
- Existing EASA licence (see previous point, but can be completed at the simultaneously)
- If necessary, training and preparation for the theoretical and practical Skill Test
- Skill Test with an EASA Instrument Examiner IRE(A):
- Oral theoretical examination in the subjects Airlaw, Flightplanning and Communications
- practical Skill Test
Conversion of an FAA Airplane Instrument Rating to an EASA CB-IR(A) PIC time under IFR <50h
- EASA written theory exam in the subjects Airlaw, Flightplanning and Communications
- practical skill test with an EASA Instrument Examiner IRE(A)
